Adult Drop-In Sundays from 3-5 PM. Great for beginning / intermediate players. No experience needed! Enjoy the great weather while it lasts!
Opening Drop-In Play
NOTE: if any questions, text or call Len at 781-454-6199
Unlock & Bungee the Shed
Unlock the shed door.
Secure both doors open using the bungee cords hanging on each door, attaching them to the eyelets on the sides of the shed. This prevents the doors from slamming in the wind.
Cool the sand & reduce dust (Optional)
Turn on the sprinklers for about two full rotations across the courts (one full rotation for the middle court). NOTE: Only those supervising an event or with permisson from Len should turn on / off the sprinkers.
Verify Court Size
For beginner-intermediate Sunday play
Choose court(s) already set up for 6 vs 6 rather than 2 vs 2. To confirm 6 vs 6, the bungys should be attached to the corner metal loops, not the grommet holes in the sidelines.
If all courts are set to 2 vs 2, enlarge them using the separate court conversion instructions.
For intermediate-advanced Tuesday play
Set two courts up for 6 vs 6 and one for 2 vs 2. Use separate court conversion instructions.
Adjust Net Height on both poles (Must be done BEFORE tightening the net):
Expose Hardware: Loosen the top three padding straps on the inside of the pole. Pull the top of the pad back.
Adjust Height: Loosen the hand-screw on the outer sleeve, slide the net to the line at the correct line, and hand-tighten the screw securely.
Blue Line (W): Women's height (for reverse-coed doubles on Tuesdays)
Green Line (C): Coed height: (for 6 vs 6 on Sundays and Tuesdays)
Red Line (M): Men's height (for coed doubles on Tuesdays)
Note: If sand has mounded up under the net (typical), set the net an inch or more above the line to achieve the true height.
Tighten the Net on the pole with the crank wheel:
Expose Hardware: Loosen the top three padding straps on the inside of the pole and pull the pad back.
Tighten Top Cable: Turn the crank counter-clockwise until the net top is very taut (use full strength unless particularly strong). Flip the triangular locking piece into the notch to secure the wheel.
⚠️ CAUTION: Keep fingers clear of the notch and crank to avoid serious injury!
Tighten Bottom Strap: Pull the loose end of the bottom strap towards the net firmly. If needed, first rotate the strap so the buckle sits right next to the pole to get maximum leverage.
Secure Padding: Wrap the padding back around the pole and re-fasten all Velcro straps on both poles.
Equipment & Music
Payment Sign (Tuesdays): Bring out the acrylic table-top sign with payment instructions from the containers on the left side of the shed and place it visibly on the first picnic table.
Volleyballs: Grab a ball or two from the shed (Tip: the yellow ones are typically in the best condition).
Score flippers: Obtain from behind the containers on the left side of the shed.
Speaker Setup:
Retrieve the speaker from the shed (or use an alternate) and set it in a convenient spot. Power it on.
Press the Bluetooth button once. Tip: It can be finicky—wait a few seconds for the voice prompt "Connecting to Bluetooth."
Connect your phone to Pathfinder 320.
Tip: You can slide the top compartment of the speaker open and store your phone to protect it from heat, sand, and weather. The phone can be far from the speaker if a clear line-of-sight, though it will draw more phone battery.
Outdoor Shower (Optional)
Bring out the outdoor shower setup and connect its attached hose directly to the spigot hose line. You can move the black matt to stand on while showering.
Closing Drop-In Play
Loosen the Net on the pole with the crank wheel:
Expose Hardware: Loosen the top two or three padding straps on the inside of the pole to access the crank wheel.
Release Top Cable: Turn the crank counter-clockwise just enough to disengage the triangular locking piece from the notch. Turn the crank clockwise the net sags about one foot.
⚠️ CAUTION: Keep fingers clear of the notch and crank to avoid serious injury!
Release Bottom Strap: Press the buckle tab to release the strap tension, pulling enough slack through so the bottom of the net sags freely.
Secure Padding: Wrap the padding back around the pole and re-fasten all Velcro straps.
Equipment & Music
Volleyballs: Return the drop-in volleyballs to the ball netting inside the shed. Check the grass, playground and over side fence for stray balls.
Score Flippers: Return the score to 0-0 and place score flippers behind the containers on the left side of the shed.
Speaker: Let Len know if power level is below two bars. Power off the speaker and return it to the left side of the shed next to the containers.
Payment Sign (Tuesdays): Return the acrylic table-top sign with payment instructions to the containers on the left side of the shed.
Outdoor Shower
if shower is out, disconnect shower hose from spigot hose.
Open both shower valves to drain remaining water.
Return shower and connected shower hose to shed.
Lock the Shed
Unhook the bungees from the eyelets on the shed and leave them dangling on the inside of the doors.
Close both doors simultaniously so they fit together. Otherwise, lift the left door until it will slide next to right door.
Flip the metal latch plate closed and secure the padlock.
Public Volleyball Check
Ensure three balls are in the container next to the trash. Verify they are not yellow or whiteballs (they should all be labeled "SNH sand volleyball" and "return to container").
Leave or place the soccer ball on the playground.
Seal container top so balls don't get wet.
